Disney Plus

If you know your 'Hakuna Matata's from your 'Whole New World's, then Disney Plus is the streaming service for you.

Since it launched in Australia back in 2019, the House of Mouse's streaming service has grown from being the home of classic Disney content — like Pixar and Star Wars — to hosting new and original entertainment for a wide range of audiences and age groups from iconic franchises, like Alien, Predator, Avatar and The Simpsons.

Here's everything you need to know about streaming Disney Plus in Australia.

Get 2 months Disney Plus free by subscribing annually
  • Watch in full HD on two devices
  • Save between $38 and $49 per year
  • Watch exclusive content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars™, National Geographic, Hulu and ESPN

What is Disney Plus?

Disney Plus is, of course, Disney's very own streaming service. It's the exclusive streaming platform for favourite childhood flicks from Disney and Pixar, Marvel's superhero blockbusters, the Star Wars saga and more.

The service is also home to Hulu, a content hub that features shows and movies from Fox Entertainment, ABC (American Broadcasting Corporation), FX and more. The Simpsons, The Rookie, The Bear, and Parks & Recreation, just to name a few. Plus, with National Geographic, there are plenty of documentaries on the platform for the whole family to enjoy.

You'll also find ESPN on Disney Plus with two channels ESPN and ESPN2, bringing you live sports streaming from the NBA, NHL and MLB, as well as game highlights, replays and documentaries.

Disney Plus starts around $9.99 per month in Australia if you don't mind ad breaks and $17.99 per month if you want to go ad free. Alternatively, you can sign up to a full year of Disney Plus Standard for a discounted price of $179.99. That essentially gets you two months for free, working out at $14.99 per month.

The Premium Disney Plus plan, however, costs $24.99 per month or $249.99 per year on the annual plan (working out at roughly $20.85 per month). By contrast, Netflix will charge you $28.99 for the equivalent perks. That makes Disney Plus look like a pretty good deal, comparatively.

Disney Plus Annual Pass discounts
Plan Annual Cost SavingMore
Disney Plus Standard $179.99 per year $35.89 per year View Plan
Disney Plus Premium $249.99 per year $49.89 per year View Plan

The Disney Plus smartphone and tablet app also allows offline downloads on Standard and Premium plans, but not on Standard with Ads. There isn't a fixed number of shows or movies you can download to your device at a single time, so the only real restriction is the amount of storage you have left on your device. You can authorise up to 10 smartphones or tablets for simultaneous offline downloads, which is a lot more generous than what you'd get on Netflix or Stan.

Similar, to Netflix you can add additional members to your account for $7.99 per month. You might do this if you share your Disney Plus account with members outside your household. They'll be able to watch Disney Plus on one screen at a time, at whatever quality you're already paying for (e.g. 4K if you're on Premium).

What can I watch on Disney Plus in Australia?

Hoppers on Disney Plus Australia

The Australian version of Disney Plus is home to over 2,000 movies and more than 1,000 TV shows. You'll find Disney classics, Pixar movies and shorts, Marvel films and TV shows (even beyond the core Marvel Cinematic Universe), the Star Wars franchise, content from National Geographic and a variety of Fox classics thanks to Hulu (including 35 seasons of The Simpsons).

It's also host to award-winning hits like comedy-drama The Bear and mockumentary Abbott Elementary as well as the critically acclaimed Only Murders in the Building and, more recently, popular shows like The Testaments and Paradise.

You can find some more mature sci-fi content from the Alien and Predator universes too. In fact, it's the only place you can currently stream every Alien and Predator movie and TV show in Australia. Alien's Xenomorph queen is, after all, officially a Disney princess now.

Through the ESPN hub on the home screen you can catch live sports or watch replays and sporting documentaries. ESPN is home to some of the most popular US sporting codes including NBA (National Basketball Association), NHL (National Hockey League), MLB (Major League Baseball) and UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) to name a few.

Much like its rival Netflix and other streaming services, Disney also produces exclusive, original content for its streaming platform. This includes  live-action Star Wars TV series like The Mandalorian, Andor and Ahsoka, original Marvel TV series, such as Loki, Wonder Man and Daredevil: Reborn, and even a long-awaited TV adaptation of Percy Jackson & the Olympians.

There's a lot to sift through, but we've rounded up the best TV shows and best movies available to stream in Australia.

What are the best internet plans for Disney Plus?

When it comes to the best internet plans for streaming it's not a matter of data but capacity. The majority of internet plans come with unlimited data these days and a maximum download speed. This speed is a shared resource.

We recommend at least an NBN 50 plan for families of between 2-4 people. On this speed tier, there's enough bandwidth for people in the household to stream different shows or use the internet for other things simultaneously.

See the cheapest NBN 50 plans in WhistleOut's database:

What are the alternatives to Disney Plus in Australia?

Disney Plus is a great streaming service, but Australians also have plenty of options these days. You can also sign up for Netflix, Stan, Binge, Paramount Plus, Amazon Prime Video , Hayu and Apple TV Plus. There are even free-to-watch TV options from ABC (iView), Ten, Seven (7Plus), Nine (9Now), and SBS (On Demand).

International streaming behemoth Netflix is one of Disney Plus's biggest rivals domestically. Netflix has a wide range of original content - including shows such as Stranger Things, The Beast in Me, Wednesday, Ghosts, and more - but there's also a wealth of other shows, movies, and documentaries to discover.

Stan is a homegrown streaming service owned by Nine that offers a wide range of content, including originally-made TV shows and exclusive programming from the Showtime network. Popular exclusive shows include Mad Men, Yellowstone, Breaking Bad, Blue Lights, and more.

Binge, Foxtel's streaming sidekick starts at $10 per month if you can deal with the ads. Binge has huge collections of snackable crime drama like Law & Order: SVU and Chicago Fire as well as popular movies like Wicked, Black Bag and Drop.

Amazon Prime Video is good value at $9.99 per month. The library isn't as extensive as what you'll find on Stan or Netflix, but it does have exclusive content, including The Boys, The Rings of Power, Reacher and Wheel of Time. You do have to pay to an extra $3 per month to remove the ad breaks, though.

HBO Max is the latest and greatest contender for Disney's market share. When it launched early 2025, HBO took all of its most popular TV shows back from Binge and Foxtel. That alone isn't enough to make a splash, but HBO Max went from strength to strength in the year that followed with Peacemaker Season 2, IT: Welcome to Derry, Task, The Chair Company and blockbusters like Superman, Weapons, One Battle After Another and more.

Does Disney Plus have a free trial in Australia?

Disney Plus doesn't currently offer a free trial. You can, however, find a variety of deals that will save you money on Disney Plus.

Streaming platforms that do offer free trials include:

What features does Disney Plus have?

Disney Plus offers a variety of features to help users enjoy their favourite shows and movies, some of them include:

  • Up to 4K Ultra High Definition resolution and Dolby Atmos sound are available on compatible devices on the Premium plan. On the Standard and Standard with Ads plans, you get up to 1080p High Definition and up to 5.1 surround sound audio
  • Ability to stream on up to four devices at the same time on Premium and up to two devices on Standard and Standard with Ads
  • Download any movie or show on up to 10 devices and watch it offline, limited to the capacity on your device on Standard and Premium plans (not available on Standard with Ads)
  • Kids-only profiles
  • Disney Plus Perks: Discounts on Disney-adjacent products, services and experiences

Does Disney Plus have ads?

Yes, Disney Plus has a cheaper, ad-supported plan that costs $9.99 per month. Standard with Ads gets you 1080p HD streaming on two devices, same as the $17.99 Standard plan, but with ad breaks and no offline downloads, essentially saving you $8 per month or $96 per year.

If you are viewing the live channels ESPN or ESPN 2 you may also encounter advertising but you won't encounter them outside of the ESPN hub if you're paying for an ad-free plan.

Does Disney Plus allow password sharing?

No, not without paying extra. Disney Plus subscriptions are not supposed to be used outside of your household. Disney Plus defines "Household" as the collection of devices associated with your residence and used by people who live there (e.g. your WiFi and location data).

You can add a member to your account who exists outside of your Household for an extra $7.99 per month. They'll get the same benefits as users on main account although they can only view on one screen at a time.

Disney Plus FAQs

How can I reset my Disney Plus password?

If you need to reset your Disney Plus password, visit DisneyPlus.com/en-au, and then click Login in the top-right-hand corner. Type in the email linked with your account, and then click Continue.

Click Forgot Password? Disney Plus will then email you a six-digit code. Enter this code, and then click Continue. You will then be able to enter a new password. Click Continue when you are done.

How can I cancel my Disney Plus subscription?

Visit Disney Plus online and hover your mouse over Profile in the top right corner. Click on Account. Under Subscription, click Billing Details, and then click Cancel Subscription. Click on the red Complete Cancellation box to finish cancelling your Disney Plus account.

Can I remove ESPN from Disney Plus?

No, ESPN is now included as part of all Disney Plus subscription plans. You can, however, hide live ESPN content and news from any profile by going into individual profile settings and unticking the option to "allow titles without ratings like live sports, news and more".

Can I watch Disney Plus on more than one device at once?

Disney Plus Standard and Standard with Ads allow you to stream on two devices at once while Disney Plus Premium allows up to four devices at once. These do have to be within the same household, however. If you want to share your account outside of your household, you'll have to pay $7.99 per additional user.

Does Disney Plus have a kid-safe option?

Disney Plus subscribers can create locked-down kid-friendly profiles. To do this, visit Disney Plus via a browser (or your app), and hover your mouse over Profile in the top right-hand corner. Click Add Profile and then choose an icon. Give the profile a name, and then toggle Junior mode to on.

To make it secure you can also switch on a Kid-proof Exit. This requires anyone trying to switch from Junior mode to have to answer a simple exit question.
